j'avais envie de dire bonjour à n'importe qui

Paris was so different from the Paris of my imagination. I never imagined the city to be so big, so exhausting, so diverse, of course it was charming and stunning and stylish as well, just a little too big to be understood and grasped in four short days. like a very charming old gentleman said to me in the airplane on our way back home, it's like eating ten litres of ice cream. too much.

the whole four days went by fast by just looking and walking around.
the shops were great, take le bon marché for example. dries van noten, maison martin margiela, marni, stella mccartney, comme des garcons and millions of other great brands and stunning clothes next to each other. unbelievable.

the best moments of the whole trip, however, were the little morning walks to the local boulangerie and fruit shop, the old men smiling and saying bonjour.

we decided to rent out an apartment for the four days as we thought we could play parisians for a while, and it was the best decision we could have made.
the apartment was on a big boulevard right next to a metro station, all-white, modern, wooden floors and beautiful high ceilings with all the light you can get. it was pretty great, you can probably imagine, having an own temporary home in paris!

I'm off to paris for a long, hopefully refreshing weekend far from worries.
a bientôt!

seven chains and a pink pony

I used to think that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were the two most overrated women in the whole fashion industry. my mind changed when I saw the commercial for their collection, the row, styled by Vanessa Traina.
the next step to fully accepting those two blondes was their book influence which happens to be the number one book in my need-to-have list. and now that I saw the following photos of their line called elizabeth&james, there's no doubt about it. those girls are here to stay, they are influential and aspirational,
and I love the simplicity of these clothes and the black and white and the blazers and tanks and the buns of hair.

I recently noticed that living without a bag resembling the black suede zara one with silver chains (the one that sold out immediately) is not enjoyable.
so I went to the local hardware store to pick up some chains and oh what joy it was! screws and nails and all these little things that I never even knew I needed.
my mom thought I was out of my mind.

anyway I got what I went in there for, I only need the black pleather now. those bastardos at eurokangas didn't have any and I don't know where to get real leather from. all Finns, please do tell me if you happen to know.

I am totally broke, sorry about the complaints but it's the worst time possible considering the paris trip is a week away. I just suck suck suck at saving money.
visited the new beamhill today and it was big and white and awesome and they had the best vibskov laptop sleeves and a gorgeous dove grey knit from won hundred,
I need a freaking job.

la sabbia brucia

the past weekend was quite an extraordinary one.
friday night was long, and saturday morning I walked home all alone, but instead of the usual quiet it was deafening.
the blackbirds just sang and sang and I couldn't go to bed at all.
I feel like I actually remembered why I love life so much for the first time this year.
the rest of the weekend was filled with great wine and special people, reunions, newfound faith in myself, sunshine, shopping and a beautiful movie (the reader--I strongly recommend) in the most stunning movie theater in helsinki.

I have to admit that I also got a new pair of shoes even though I swore I wouldn't. bye bye money, hello being broke in the (supposedly) best city in the world
(can't wait....ladurée, cafés, champs-élysées, lots of black clothes and heels in the suitcase, some vintage shopping, colette.)

I'm not liking the highly materialistic contents of this blog and I promise to the few of you (or at least myself) that there will be a change. I'll try to talk about something else than just spending.

can one make new year's resolutions almost four months after new year's? I think mine should have been:
learn to walk in high heels with pride and dignity.

I saw a pair of shoes, fell hard for them but wasn't quite sure I wanted them.
however, a month went by and I couldn't stop drooling at them whenever I saw them. they had to be mine. thank you mother.

they are the only pair of shoes I intend to get for the summer. I realized I don't need any more.
(unless paris has very very magnifique shoes to offer)

my own lack of motivation is driving me insane. there is about a zillion things to do (get a job for summer, study for french exam, catch up on ignored maths exercises, go jogging, get a life) but instead I just sit at home watching muumit when I'm not in school. for the whole five-day easter vacation I just laid in bed, watched movies and ate.
now I feel bloated and bored and ugly and even the spring sun can't wake me up from this coma-like state of mind.
I want to flee, be free. have little spontaneous moments and sit on eteläespa drinking a café esplanad latte and hear the blackbirds sing in the forest in the evening. sit and watch people passing by, have a happy smile on my face.

nights in white satin

it looks as though the spring is getting everyone out of their shells. I've seen so many familiar faces in town this week that I almost lost track of who I really know and who I don't. following people's everyday life on the Internet is savage.
I've noticed a change in myself and my moods. waking up to the blackbirds' tunes is luxury. walking on the street without slipping is luxury. sunlight is luxury. long live the four seasons.

I thought I hated spring but I don't after all. how could I even?

hullut päivät, stockmann's sale days, were on as well this week. the only things I got from there were the gorgeous prawn caesar salad they make, a box of brunbergin suukot as a gift to a friend and a pair of underwear. the number of people in the department store was a bit too much for me.

now I'm off to pamper myself: some face masks, asparagus and fresh tuna, movies, sauna and music by the moody blues

blue bright blue

white wine is heavenly. I'm a big fan of wood ridge fruity lexia, a south australian wine of course. it is rather sweet and oddly enough many other people think it's too sweet.
ehhh try the jacob's creek chardonnay semillon then.

I went window shopping today after a gorgeous brunch at ekberg with three gorgeous friends. I saw this girl, this girl with long blonde hair and bangs standing at the tram stop, she was all clad in black and wore these amazing leggings with cuts on the sides and black raybans, and KLING the tram came and KLING she was gone. like a black and blonde ghost that still kind of haunts my mind.

anyway. I saw this hideous bright blue suede skirt, probably a size 48 or something, totally terrible. the leather still haunts my mind though (lots of things haunting my mind lately), it was the same blue the perfect nicholas kirkwood heels are, and I can see the leather as a giant clutch.
it's probably not worth the 23 euros after all, but I suppose I'll have to go and get it next week.

a bigbigbig bright blue clutch would look good in the summer with a bit of a tan and all black clothes.

chuck and taylor went girly

I had a pair of red hi-top converse shoes that I got a few years ago. I think I wore them once or twice but they ended up forgotten because of their colour.
last year I just got this vision of them in baby pink, and yesterday was a good day to take some bleach and a lot of time to make some new shoes out of the old ones.

after a headache from the chlorine smell, about six hours and a broken washing machine, this is what I got. a pair of baby pink hi-top shoes that actually look brand new.
bleach can do wonders I see!
I'm planning on taking these with me to paris, matching them with black and grey clothes.

IMG_5043.jpg baby pink dreams picture by grkid

I was scared the shoes would get torn apart because of all the chlorine I needed and the time it took for the bright red canvas to decolorize, but now that they're dry they seem perfectly fit.

the only bad thing is that the washing machine broke....

today was filled with ed energy drink,
macarons from frambois
and the plaid shirt by these glory days.

I just watched the season finale of the city, and I'm so damn disappointed. it was too scripted and too forced and it just pisses me off how the good girls shut up about the bad ones who just walk all over them, yet the bad ones always get the prize. so wrong.

the macarons were heavenly though, I very strongly recommend that cute little bakery in the WTC building in helsinki.

I really want these shoes!
the only bad thing is that they'd make me 270 euros poorer.

three random photos,
one random pony,
lots of random thoughts in my head.

I haven't written the literary essay that's due today, I just can't form proper, sharp sentences. it's all a blur, really, and I can't make all the separate thoughts
melt into an essay that would make sense. the book I need to write on was exceptionally good, the secret history by Donna Tartt.
I suggest you read it.

English matriculation exam on Friday morning and I haven't studied a bit.

I never thought I'd watch a show like the city, but no matter how fake the dialogues are, how acted the scenes are and how stupid and brainless the people in the show are, I watch it.

mainly because of the clothes and jay's accent and the braids in whitney's hair.
the whitened teeth and california smiles and the relationship between whitney and jay put me off though.

and how people go and meet each other at cafés but never stay for longer than a few minutes
and how people get annoyed but never show their feelings,
just because it's inappropriate or immature to do that
and how whitney uses fancy wannabe posh words but uses them all wrong
and how it's all fake and how the guys cheat but the girls just stand by and watch and forgive.

why why why do I even bother to watch this show ??
